Coastal Health Resources prepares for next emergency

(Sun Journal (New Bern, NC)(KRT) Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Jan. 22--Coastal Health Resources is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing timely and current information about health and social services. This type of information first became available to the church members of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church through the Community Resource Book. In the last eight years the book has grown and is now available in 42 locations in Craven and Pamlico County.

The LTC (Long Term Care) Alliance, a division of Coastal Health Resources, provides information to the public through articles written for the ENC Generations, a bi-monthly insert in the Sun Journal. This year the Web site www.chrinbnc.org has been provided to enable a greater percentage of the community to access this information.

In October Coastal Health Resources sponsored its first Senior Health "Q & A Day" at the Broad Street Christian Church. Flu shots were given and professionals were available to answer questions on the new drug plan, stroke, Alzheimer's disease, nursing homes, etc. CHRI is now planning the first of several "What If?" seminars.

What is a "What If?" seminar? Ask yourself what you would do and who you would ask to provide assistance to you or your family if a tragedy or health emergency happened. What should you have planned ahead of time? Who is available in your immediate area to help you? What facilities are available in your area?

The first of these seminars will be held in Pamlico County at the Family Learning Center of the Pamlico Middle School from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18. This seminar is open to all in Pamlico County and will be especially useful to families that have not made plans for such occurrences. Those attending will be able to obtain information about contingency planning, preparation of wills, banking problems, health and life insurance, in home health care, nursing homes, assisted living, drug plan and pharmacy questions, and end of life procedures. All presentations will be done by local professionals who will be able to answer any question you may have with no obligation on your part.

The cost to attend this informational meeting is $5 per person or $8 per couple. This will include a box lunch. Because lunch is being provided it is necessary that you make reservations by mailing your payment by February 11 to: Coastal Health Resources, Inc., P.O. Box 831, New Bern, N.C. 28563.

If you have any question call Coastal Health Resources at 636-5429, Pamlico Senior Services 745-7196, Cooperative Extension Office 745-4121 or Thrivent Financial at 635-1084.

Every other Sunday, the Sun Journal reserves a section for non-profits as an opportunity for those organizations to educate the public about their mission and the services they provide. For more information on this feature, contact Tom Mayer at 635-5662 or [email protected].
