Verizon New York Inc. Facing Lawsuit

NEW YORK, April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Dwight Murray, an employee of Verizon New York Inc., after filing numerous complaints with the EEOC department of Verizon and filing a complaint with the State Division of Human Rights, has chosen to file a retaliation civil suit in the State Supreme Court of New York. The complaint alleges that Mr. Murray suffered retaliation as a direct result of filing racial discrimination charges with the New York State Division of Human Rights, which is a protected activity, by a protected class, according to State and Federal Law.

Mr. Murray, an 18-year employee of Verizon, first went to court in 2005 after being hospitalized following a confrontation with his then supervisor. Verizon contested its liability, as well as the validity of Mr. Murray's injuries despite being provided with verifiable proof from a cardiologist. Mr. Murray then fought and won his case before the Workers Compensation Court. The decision was handed down on Sept. 26th, 2005. Shortly afterwards, Mr. Murray filed New York State Division of Human Rights charges and then in retaliation of human rights charges was repeatedly transferred in a short period of time, finally to a much more physically demanding job where he was injured.

Mr. Murray, who is a father, is currently receiving psychiatric counseling, as a result of emotional trauma endured.
