Samsung to take legal action against Apple's patent infringement claim

SEOUL, Apr 18, 2011 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- Samsung Electronics said Tuesday that it will actively respond to Apple's patent infringement claim through appropriate legal measures.

"Samsung will respond actively to Apple's legal action taken against us through appropriate legal measures to protect our intellectual property," Samsung said in a statement.

"Samsung will take legal action against Apple's accusation," Jason Kim, a spokesman at Samsung Electronics, said by phone, but he declined to comment on what action to take in detail.

Samsung's response came after Apple filed a lawsuit with the U.

S. District Court in Northern California, alleging that Samsung's Galaxy phones and Galaxy Tab tablet computers infringed Apple's patents and the trademarked look of the iPhone and iPad.

"It's no coincidence that Samsung's latest products look a lot like the iPhone and iPad from the shape of the hardware to the user interface and even the packaging," Steve Park, a spokesman at Apple Korea, told Xinhua "This kind of a blatant copying is wrong and we need to protect Apple's intellectual property when companies steal our ideas," he said.

Samsung is a supplier to Apple which was the South Korean company's second-largest client last year. Samsung was also the second-biggest recipient of U.S. patents in 2010.
