BRIEF: Thieves hold employee at gunpoint, steal iPhones

Jan 29, 2013 (The Free Lance-Star - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Spotsylvania County authorities are investigating a robbery during which a Verizon Wireless employee was held at gunpoint.

According to Capt. Jeff Pearce of the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office, three masked men rushed the lone employee at the store at the corner of State Route 3 and Bragg Road about 9 p.m. Monday.

One of the men had a handgun and threatened the employee, Pearce said.

"The armed suspect held the employee at gunpoint while the other two suspects took several iPhones from the back room," Pearce said.

He said all three suspects fled on foot through a rear door in the Battlefield Retail Center store and appeared to have gotten into a vehicle and left the area.

Deputies quickly established a perimeter and brought a K-9 unit to track the intruders, but the scent abruptly ended at a nearby business, he said.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office at 540/582-7115.
