Harris Corporation - U.S. Navy Places First Order for Falcon III Multi-channel Manpack Radio

(ENP Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ENP Newswire - 23 May 2014 Release date- 21052014 - MELBOURNE, FL/ROCHESTER, NY - Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) has received an initial order from the U.S. Navy for its next-generation Falcon III Multi-channel Manpack tactical radio - the smallest, lightest and most capable two-channel manpack radio available today.

It is the first tactical radio that can expand capabilities as the needs of the battlefield change.

Harris will deliver the Multi-channel Manpack radios this fall to the U.S. Navy, a leader in deploying cutting-edge battlefield technology. The radio is designed to operate over the new Mobile User Objective System military communications satellite without any hardware changes.

'The new Harris Multi-channel Manpack represents a quantum leap in tactical communications technology. It is a modular, software-defined radio that recognizes the battlefield is never static,' said George Helm, president, Department of Defense business, Harris RF Communications. 'With its two channels and expansion slot, it allows users to deploy the capabilities they need to be successful.' Harris developed the Multi-channel Manpack to exceed the requirements of the Handheld, Manpack, Small Form Factor tactical radio program, with features required by all branches of the Department of Defense. The radio hosts all required U.S. government wideband and narrowband waveforms. It also supports multi-channel cross-banding and requires only a single battery, minimizing size and weight for the dismounted soldier.

The company's Falcon family of software-defined tactical radio systems encompasses manpack, handheld and vehicular applications.

Falcon III is the next generation of radios supporting the U.S. military's Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) requirements, as well as network-centric operations worldwide.
